Students have the option to enroll in a GEOL MDA 140 course that will be counted as extra credit in the participating GEOL courses. Students will primarily focus on the presentation of scientific information. The MDA 140 labs will discuss the interplay between scientific argument and persuasive argument that is present in all public modes of communication of scientific information. The lab will explore multimedia as the filter through which scientific information is distilled for public consumption and the biases that are introduced during this process. By the end of the class, students should have the essential intellectual tools necessary to evaluate multimedia presentations of scientific information in the public forum. Thus, a main goal of this class is to become a conscious consumer of multimedia information by becoming a producer of multimedia information.
